Automated defibrillators installed across all 52 Kyiv metro stations

Automated external defibrillators have been installed across all 52 stations of the Kyiv Metro, with devices now placed directly in passenger areas. According to the metro’s press service, the equipment was previously located mainly in ticket halls, but has now been moved closer to passengers — onto platforms and into station vestibules.

The defibrillators have been placed in locations approved by the authors of the “ReaniMetro” project. This ensures the fastest possible access to the device in a critical emergency. Police officers and members of the Kyiv Municipal Guard are also present at stations and able to provide immediate assistance when needed.

Schiller AG — a world-leading medical manufacturer

The installed devices are produced by Schiller AG, a Swiss company recognized as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of cardiology, monitoring and resuscitation equipment. Schiller AG designs its automated external defibrillators so that even untrained individuals can use them safely — the device analyzes the patient’s condition, provides clear voice instructions and determines whether a shock is required.

Why this matters

Access to a defibrillator within the first minutes of sudden cardiac arrest has a decisive impact on survival. Every minute of delay significantly reduces the chances of successful resuscitation. Making defibrillators available directly in passenger zones — rather than in staff-only rooms — dramatically increases the likelihood of saving a life.
